Dog insurance plans
Customize your coverage by choosing from three types of dog insurance plans: accident-only, accident and illness, and routine care.
Accidental injury coverage
Accident Only plan for dogs
Choose the Accident Only plan for the most affordable coverage for your dog. This type of insurance plan for your dog can cover vet bills associated with injuries like broken bones, bite wounds, and swallowing foreign objects. It doesn't cover illness or conditions arising from repetitive activity – see your policy for further details.
Pricing: $9 per month*
Accident and illness
BestBenefit plan for dogs
A BestBenefit plan can cover everything an Accident Only plan does, plus any illness your dog suffers, unless it involves a pre-existing condition. With this plan's more comprehensive coverage, you can get reimbursed for emergency care, diagnostic tests, and visits to specialists. You'll choose your reimbursement level: 70%, 80%, or 90% of your dog's covered bills after you meet your customized annual deductible.
Pricing: Estimated cost: $42 per month**
Routine care
EssentialWellness and BestWellness plans for dogs
Routine care coverage can be added to your BestBenefit plan to cover wellness exams, annual vaccines, dental cleanings, and routine or preventative care — with no deductible. Particularly popular for younger and older dogs, our two levels of wellness coverage can help you with expected health costs throughout the year.
What dog health insurance doesn't cover
Pre-existing health conditions are not covered with dog insurance plans. That means if your puppy was diagnosed with a health condition before insurance kicked in, treatment and care would not be covered. If your dog has a pre-existing medical condition, you can still purchase an insurance plan, but any related treatments won't be covered.
Accident-only and accident-and-illness dog insurance plans don't cover preventive or elective procedures. However, you can add on coverage for specific elective and preventive procedures through the EssentialWellness and BestWellness plans.
Dog insurance also doesn't cover non-veterinary expenses such as grooming, boarding, food, supplements, and holistic or experimental therapies.
Why choose Progressive dog insurance by Pets Best?
In addition to competitive pricing and flexible plan options, Progressive Pet Insurance by Pets Best makes things easier on you and your pup's budget with these dog medical insurance benefits:
- One annual deductible: Rather than paying a deductible every time you file a medical claim for your dog, you'll only pay one deductible per year.
- Customized coverage: You can choose your deductible from $50 up to $1,000 to best fit your budget. You can also set your reimbursement at 70%, 80%, or 90% of eligible vet bills up to your annual limit once your dog's insurance deductible has been paid.
- No age limits: You can enroll your puppy or dog in an accident-only or accident and illness plan at any age and keep the same level of coverage as they grow older.
- Fast claims processing: Claims are processed efficiently without long delays.
- Flexible payment options: You decide if you want to pay your premiums monthly, quarterly, or annually.
Understanding dog insurance costs
Dog insurance is relatively affordable, especially when you have the option to customize your plan to your dog's current health needs. Besides the type and amount of coverage you select, the estimated cost of dog insurance can also depend on your dog’s breed, age, and location. For example, you can pick up a comprehensive accident and illness insurance plan for a small breed dog through Progressive for $239.76 – $574.56 per year.‡
Other types of pet coverage we offer
In addition to dog insurance, cat insurance policies are also available through Progressive Pet Insurance by Pets Best. Get your quote today and save 5% by insuring more than one pet.†
